The Institute of Psionic Medicine, founded in 1975, is the professional body, which is responsible for research and training in the methods of Psionic Medicine. At this moment in time Membership and Fellowship is only available to qualified doctors, dentists and veterinary surgeons, all of whom have to pass through a recognised training scheme.

At the time of writing, three pre-requisites are ordinarily considered to be necessary prior to training:

1.      A medical, dental or veterinary qualification, registerable in the UK (or its equivalent abroad).

2.      A working background knowledge of homoeopathy.

3.      The ability to dowse. Competence in the use of the pendulum is essential and the British Society of Dowsers has undertaken to train interested doctors, dentists and veterinary surgeons prior to their introduction to the medical applications.

Thereafter, training requires that the candidate should attend the Institute of Psionic Medicine, being assigned to a personal tutor who will instruct the student in the use of charts, samples and witnesses. After a period of time, the student will move on to the diagnosis of cases and, after demonstrating competence in psionic analysis, start to treat patients (again under personal supervision).

There is a minimum time of tuition, but no maximum, the very nature of psionic analysis being such that people take different lengths of time in order to develop the necessary skill. After treating no less than one hundred cases (under supervision of the tutor), the candidate is then expected to submit to the examining board a dissertation of original research within the field, then take an examination covering all subjects within the Psionic Medicine curriculum. Upon satisfactory completion of training and success in the dissertation and the examination, the qualification of Member of the Institute of Psionic Medicine  (MIPsiMed) may be conferred upon the candidate.
